Fightning the iPhone crave

Today, I saw a comment on one of the thousand posts on the iPhone at TUAW, and I wanted to respond to it. After reviewing what I wrote, I just realized I had pwned ATT and Apple. Check this out:

If you think about it, the iPhone is crippled even when it is activated. I can get a laptop for less then the phone that can do the same and more as the device. I can make calls, set up voicemail, and text message via Skype and other programs. I can browse the web, look at Google Maps, view Youtube videos, play music, make and send pictures, keep contact information in a database, check stocks, make calendar events, and send email to all my friends with an actual keyboard! Plus, if your into this stuff, write notes to yourself that can actually sync to something. As an added feature, you can pay for a built in Webcam for your every day picture needs. Even better, I can actually write programs for my iPhone!

And before you start to talk about my wireless capabilities, I can buy a Wireless broadband card from any Cell provider to access internet from anywhere for a fourth of the price plus Wifi in dedicated locations.

Viola! A real iPhone without a montly fee. Apple, if I wanted a cell phone, I’d get a cellphone, not a crippled computer with a HUGE price tag on it.

iPhone hype

7 Days. 7 Days until your death, just like ‘The Ring’. Hah! I was joking! That was funny, right? Actually, it’s 7 days until the release of the iPhone, and the Mac World is going crazy. Just in the last two days, the The Unofficial Apple Weblog has posted over 20 articles on this one subject alone! Hard to believe that all this hype is being created over an over priced PDA. My opinion: Ridiculous. Apple, get back to what made you famous; Computers and Computer Software. You can’t keep following the money, it will lead you to the Dark Side. *and unstable stock investors*

Keynote dissapointment

Apple, in my lifetime that was by far one of the worst Keynote presentations ever. Once again, you have chosen to ad tons of glitz and glamour to your Operating System, but now down-right new core features! Yes, you’ve made your interface prettier *heh, to some, personally I think the iTunes 7 look is hideous*, but where’s the security updates? Where are the UNIX, Java and other core updates? More importantly, where is PPC support in your future plans? So far, I haven’t seen good evidence of Apple continuing to support the aging architecture. Below is some evidence.

1. Many PowerPC users have found that they cannot install the latest Safari 3 beta, encountering an bleak error saying “cannot be installed”

2. Apple continues to make very spirited remarks about the PPC architecture, and hardly noted Universal Applications in the ‘07 Keynote.
3. The Keynote bragged about the speed of Leopard on Intel, yet failed to mention anything about Leopard supporting PPC.
4. Jobs himself said the transitions over to processors is over, which only means this: depreciated and removing the old product

These and many more reasons conclude why many PPC users feel let down, and down right deserted by the company they bought their computers from. A little over half of Mac users still use the PPC architecture, so many worry about the computer companies, *oh, wait, Apple Inc, my bad* true motives for this new release.

Now for the worst of them all, iPhone. Apple, what the hell are you thinking? You advertise this new product, that does what? A Mac pretending to be a cell phone? Are you trying to pass off another PDA, like the failed idea behind Newton? And worst is that you dedicated time in Keynote for it! I know by now some of you may be fuming, as many seem like the iPhone. But I however, will not be fooled. Our beloved company is following the money, and straying farther and farther from their old goal, “Make the best combination of hardware and software available on the market.” I hope Apple finds it’s light again, or I wonder the company’s future as a computer and Operating System maker *stocks fell 3% from the Keynote*

WWDC ‘07

Today’s it folks. If anything new is going to be released by Apple this year, it will be presented here, at the World Wide Developer’s Conference ‘07. The Keynote, will be presented in a little over 2 hours, but sadly, no live Video streaming this year. Instead, sites like MacRumors will have automatic updating picture feed from inside the presentation room here..

I’m not exactly sure what to expect from this year’s Keynote, as they can be so unpredictable, like last year’s. I would hope it’s not concentrated on the iPhone, as that is the least of Apple’s importance. Constant delay’s in Leopard are staining Apple’s record, especially in it’s own tight-nit user group.
