Uninstalling SUCKS!

Uninstalling programs on Windows XP is like watching someone kill a kitten in front of you, YOU CAN’T WATCH! Why? The idea of an uninstaller on Windows is removing the program’s name and icon from a small list. Oh yeah, that really does the trick, take Battlefield Vietnam for example. But then again, I shouldn’t rap on M$ too much, every installation goes straight to one directory on the OS. On the other hand, OS X doesn’t even have an uninstaller, and software caches, preferences, and data files are all stored in 3 separate locations! Luckily, 3rd party applications take care of this for us by finding all appropriate files and folders and deleting them.

What I’m trying to say is, uninstalling is such a pain in the ass these days its embarrasing. Installation is as easy as clicking next or dragging a .app file wherever you want it. But I guess that’s the idea, right? Software companies don’t want you to to delete their products, only install it. Bleh. The OS makers need to get a handle on this immediately, or the amount of 3rd party software found on the OS’s will diminish to the novice user, fast.

In the meantime, while your reading this, think of me, uninstalling Battlefield Vietnam from my system. Finding all the program files, registry accounts, etc. Thanks a lot EA.
